The impending brand split in WWE has threatened to overshadow the buildup to the upcoming Money in the Bank pay-per-view on June 19, but there are still some intriguing storylines to keep an eye on. 
 
Seth Rollins' explosive return at Extreme Rules set up a grudge match between the former champion and Roman Reigns?and that's just one of a number of bouts that fans will anticipate. 
 
There's plenty going on, and with WWE's New Era settling into its groove, here are the most fascinating feuds and stories to track as the show approaches.

The John Cena Effect 
 
We'll no doubt get a clearer idea about the plans for John Cena following next Monday's edition of Raw—but no matter what WWE has in store, his return will give the whole build towards MITB a lift. 
 
Cena's plans will be worth tracking, especially since WWE has filled up the obvious hole he looked destined to shore up himself. 
 
A United States Championship feud with Rusev seemed certain, given the prestige Cena put into that title throughout last year, but it looks like WWE is going for Titus O'Neil as the next contender for The Bulgarian Brute's championship. 
 
That makes Cena's appearance on Raw much more interesting, as it isn't immediately clear who he will target—or who will target him. 
 
But with his divisive character and high profile, whatever lies in store for Cena will give WWE a boost in the weeks before Money in the Bank. 
 
 
 
Will WWE Pull Off a Double Turn? 
 
 
Seth Rollins appeared on both Raw and SmackDown this week to address his shocking return at Extreme Rules?and from first glance, it looks like WWE is intent on making him a heel once again. 
 
However, there may be a grand plan in the pipeline that involves Rollins and Roman Reigns switching roles in the infamous double turn. 
 
 
It's not a guarantee by any stretch of the imagination, but with the reactions for Reigns not improving?in fact, they're getting worse?WWE has a genuine opportunity on its hands to switch them both around and set up a compelling future for both men. 
 
Perhaps the temptation to keep Reigns babyface was too great while WWE worked out what sort of reaction Rollins would get. 
 
He's getting some great reactions in his first few days back with the company, and with those likely to increase as Money in the Bank approaches, the double turn may be WWE's only option. 
 
 
 
Who Gets the Briefcase? 
 
 
WWE will throw fans plenty of hints in the coming weeks about which star is going to get the Money in the Bank briefcase?with plenty of rumors likely to emerge online, too. 
 
However, history has shown that this match can provide some late swerves and dramatic booking decisions that change the destination of the briefcase. 
 
This year's field is perhaps the most crowded ever in terms of picking out a star who deserves the chance to hold the coveted case.In particular, Dean Ambrose's story will be interesting. How he goes about his business between now and the match itself will, as expected, be unpredictable?much like his recent booking. 
 
 
 
There were the highs of feuds with Triple H and Brock Lesnar?where he looked genuinely ready to become the next big babyface on the roster?and the lows of his Chris Jericho rivalry, culminating in that disappointing match at Extreme Rules. 
 
 
However, Ambrose has two wins on pay-per-view to his name following the WrestleMania 32 loss to Lesnar, and he is one of the leading contenders to win what will be an entertaining match. 
 
With Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn also in the mix, this could turn out to be the best MITB match yet—which means a compelling build in the run-up to it.

WWE Money in the Bank Ladder Match

They say that money changes everything. So what does it mean for the six (so far) Superstars who will risk life and limb climbing a ladder in pursuit of the coveted Money in the Bank contract, which guarantees a WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match to whomever holds it within the span of a year? 
 
For Kevin Owens, it means vindication. The Prizefighter came into WWE a year ago with a massive chip on his shoulder, beating John Cena and dubbing this place ?The Kevin Owens Show? almost as soon as he walked through the door. He has earned two Intercontinental Titles since then, and a Money in the Bank contract would go a long way toward fulfilling KO?s promise to take over and remake WWE in his image.

For Cesaro, it’s a chance to put lingering doubts to rest. It’s his first time in a Money in the Bank Match on his own (his previous two outings at Money in the Bank were under the tutelages of Zeb Colter and Paul Heyman), and not a minute too soon: The King of Swing seems to have finally found his stride, and if not for outrageous circumstances, he’d have won the Intercontinental Title from The Miz twice now. All those questions about whether he’s fit to grab to the brass ring could be answered if he ascends the ladder and seizes the precious briefcase. At the very least it?d go nice with that suit of his. 
 
 
For Sami Zayn, on the other hand, it?s a matter of destiny. ?The Underdog from the Underground? is the New Era’s resident journeyman, having overcome a decade-plus path through the independent scene and a couple of nasty injuries to make it to WWE, where he immediately captured the WWE Universe?s heart. He has been locked in a struggle with longtime rival Owens since the day he got here, but one gets the sense that Zayn has always set his sights on bigger and better things than one man. 
 
For Chris Jericho, there is nothing – and no one – bigger than himself. The Ayatollah of Rock ?n’ Rolla has bestowed the “Gift of Jericho? to the WWE Universe for weeks, insisting his own magnificence is enough to validate the continued existence of WWE programming. He has a point: The six-time World Champion famously invented the Money in the Bank Ladder Match itself, but he’s never actually won it. For a Superstar who considers himself “The Best in the World at What He Does,? nothing less than a championship contract will satisfy him. Drink it in, man. 
 
 
For Alberto Del Rio, it?s a chance to return to the upper echelon of excellence. The Pride of Mexico is already a Money in the Bank contract-winner, having successfully redeemed his own briefcase for a WWE Title back in 2011. This is one of the few opportunities Del Rio has really had to reclaim the ultimate prize for himself since returning in 2015. He?ll claw at the chance with all the power available to him. But of course, you already know that. 
 
And then there’s Dean Ambrose, who ? well, it?s unwise to even fathom what goes on in the mind of The Lunatic Fringe. This is a man, after all, who threw Chris Jericho onto a pile of thumbtacks to avenge a month?s worth of slights. But one thing?s for sure: Ambrose has been the perennial runner-up to the WWE World Heavyweight Title since November, coming in second in a title tournament at Survivor Series, second in the Royal Rumble Match that made Triple H champion and narrowly losing a title match at WWE Roadblock in February. Crazy or not, that has to sting. And smart money says he has had enough.

The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion, after all, was never actually beaten in the ring for the title. Instead, Rollins was forced to relinquish the championship after tearing his right ACL, MCL and medial meniscus during a WWE Live Event in Europe.
